49-year-old Fairfield man (name withheld in order to protect the privacy of the accused) has been recently arrested on several different charges relating to child molestation: lewd acts with a minor, continuous sexual assault of a minor, and aggravated sexual assault of a minor (all grouped under California Penal Code 288 or 261-269). Local law enforcement officials have been conducting an investigation of his predilections only since the end of May 2014 when they were alerted to the possibility that he had sexually assaulted multiple young girls in the Fairfield area. After searching his apartment, police are convinced, based on the evidence they found there, that his crimes are much more extensive. In fact, they are currently asking that any potential additional victims come forward to add to the current allegations against him.
According to California law, any time that a minor (defined as a person under the age of 14, commonly) is touched in a sexually charged manner by an adult, they may be guilty of a violation of CA Penal Code 288. Just on the first charge (lewd acts with a minor), he could be facing up to 8 years in state prison. The second charge, continuous sexual assault of a minor (CA Penal Code 288.5), could mean up to 16 years in state prison. On the third charge, aggravated sexual assault on a minor (CA Penal Code 261.5) he could be looking at up to 10 years in state prison for each count during which he used force or threats to accomplish his goals.
