In California, since the O.J. Simpson case, police and counties have changed how they respond to domestic violence allegations. Prior to the O.J. Case, if the police were called and no one was hurt and where no one wished to press charges, the officers might suggest somebody take a walk to cool off and let the family work things out privately.
