When Summit Defense clients need an attorney with proven trial experience and Sacramento area expertise, attorney Bruce Nelson will likely be part of their defense team. Mr. Nelson has practiced law for over 25 years in every major courthouse in Northern California including the greater Sacramento area, the Central Valley and the Bay Area. He has resided in the Sacramento area since he was four years old and is intimately familiar with the players in the legal community.
Experience as a Former Police Officer
When asked how he chose the legal profession, Bruce explained that he was interested in fairness and justice from a early age. He studied Criminal Justice and Police Science in college and originally planned a career in law enforcement. He subsequently became a Military Police Officer in the National Guard, but soon discovered that he didn’t agree with the way policing was handled. He found that the justice system could be unfair and biased towards the authorities rather than the rights of the accused.
Today, Mr. Nelson uses his unusual background to give Summit Defense clients an advantage when he anticipates how the police will conduct their investigation and advises his clients how to best respond.
Outstanding Track Record
When Mr. Nelson agrees to take on a new client, his first goal is to get the case dismissed and he utilizes all avenues and strategies to do so. Cases range from misdemeanor DUIs, Petty Theft and Domestic Violence to more serious felony accusations such as Sex Crimes, Fraud, Embezzlement and Violent Offenses.
If a case must be tried, Bruce brings a superb track record to the Summit Defense team, having won 14 out of 15 trials. Mr. Nelson is known in the legal community for his patient and communicative style and his tenacity in getting the best possible results for his clients. He is a leader who takes control of the situation and works out a solution. That's one of the many reasons why he has been chosen to arbitrate over 200 cases.
In his free time, Bruce an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, fishing and river rafting. He is also a dedicated father of two grown children and has been married for 25 years.
Bruce received his AA in Police Science from Sacramento City College followed by a BA in Criminal Justice from California State University at Sacramento and a JD from Southwestern Law School in 1981.
